OU’s quick guide to… Getting to Uruguay If you’ve decided to check out Uruguay’s captivating cities and endless sandy beaches for yourself, here’s our guide on how to get there. A good starting point for booking flights is www.orbitz.com,or one of the many flight price comparison sites online. But we would also recommend that you compare the best price you’ve found with the booking pages of the airline’s website too for any special offers that might be available. Carrasco International Airport is the largest airport in the country and is located in Ciudad de la Costa, about 20 kilometers outside of Montevideo.
From the U.S. The only direct flight from the U.S. to Carrasco Airport is on American Airlines from Miami, which takes about nine hours. If you can’t fly from Miami, the next best thing is to fly to Buenos Aires, then take the 30-minute flight to Montevideo or the 40-minute flight to the international airport at Punta del Este. Most carriers have flights to BA, so check with your travel agent or online for flight information. From Europe Only two airlines offer direct flights from Europe to Uruguay:
Regular connections are available to Montevideo from most European cities via major South American cities such as São Paulo in Brazil, and the Argentinean capital Buenos Aires. Brazilian airline, TAM (www.tam.com.br) flies from both Lisbon and Paris to Montevideo via Sao Paulo; and Iberia runs connecting flights from London to Montevideo via Madrid.
