Pilsen and Patricia are nothing like no other beer I've had. The taste is sweet and smooth. I went to Uruguay to visit family and wish I could have brought everything back with me! The fact they only have about 4 main beers to choose from is great! It's a simple life there and simplicity is so peaceful. Does anyone know where I can get these beers in the US?

Hi Syd...Norteña has been around for a long time, and historically, it has been the biggest competitor to Pilsen.
In mi opinion, if you believe that Pilsen is the poorest....Norteña is not so better....
Now, going back to the Why is it so hard to find Norteña? Simply..as far as I know, it's not produced any more.
A little history behind this....
Patricia, Norteña & Prinz, were under the umbrella of the same company.
Now the competitor, Pilsen, Doble Uruguaya, & Zillertal, were on the other side, in another company.
Around 2000 If I'm not wrong, something big happened, Heineken (yes, Heineken) had bought Pilsen, and Quilmes, had bought Norteña.
A third player appeared, AmBev, who got major participation on both of them, establishing a monopoly in the beer market in Uruguay since they control all the brands.
A little more detail, AmBev from Brasil, was the Owner of Antarctica, Brahma, Bavaria & Skol in Brasil.
You kow who acquired Bavaria from Ambev in Brasil?....take a guess..... Molson CANADIAN....so we are back to your canadian roots in this article!
Take care....I hope you find this interesting....
