OU’s Quick Guide to… Uruguay’s Climate
Uruguay has a moderately temperate climate, free of intense temperature extremes—the summers are hot but not unbearable, and winters rarely see frost, especially in the coastal areas. The four seasons are fairly well defined, but as this is the southern hemisphere, the seasons here run during the opposite months as in North America and Europe.
Summer (and the high holiday season) runs from December to February. Spring (September – November) can be cool and damp. Autumn (running from March to May) is mild. Winters (June – August) can be chilly especially at nighttime. Overall there is no distinct wet and dry season; the rainfall is usually distributed evenly throughout the year.
